I haven't journaled here in 72 weeks.

I moved out in January 2008 but I didn't mention it here. I was apartment sitting for 3 months, and then when Sarah came back she asked if I wanted to live there permanently. It was a great house, it was beautiful, and Sarah was really good to me.
I recently moved again, down the street with Caitlin in June.
My sister got married on August 2nd (2009).Wedding Photos )New Apartment )

Warren Humeny is close to his art. His studio, located in his Winnipeg home basement, is a small cement area he has converted into a work space and dark room. A shelf slashed with paint where his photos sit occupies a third of the basement. “A while ago I would use this shelf to work, and then have to fold it down to sleep on,” he remembered from a time before moving to Winnipeg. “With studio space downtown sometimes I would blame not going [to the studio] on bad weather to bike in. I was used to all my supplies being right here,” he says, showing the comfort of an in-house studio.

Humeny’s intimacy with his art translates in his detailed stencils and hand processed photos that he will be showing at Outerworks Gallery, opening this weekend, March.21st at 7:30 PM. The show, titled Purchasing Enlightenment, is a collaborative effort of Humeny and his artist friend from Alberta, Rob Klein. “The show isn’t really an elaboration of the title,” said Humeny, although it is a statement about branding and “all the accessories for bringing simplicity to life”. He notes that he has a ‘Zen’ music player, but comments, “loading stolen music onto a device, is that what Zen is now?”
Until recently Humeny had used stencils primarily for graffiti art, but is now experimenting by processing photos within the gaps of stencils. The result is an intricate design with depth; Familiar structures built upon obscure photos.
“I have an extensive morgue of photographs,” Humeny described where he begins finding inspiration for a new art piece. “A lot of times my work is a synthesis of a few ideas. I will have an image in my head of something… and it evolves on its own. My focus is to make it asthetically beautiful. Afterwards the idea comes out”.
Klein is straightforward with his inspiration process. “The reoccurring [themes in the art],” he laughs slightly, “are women. I paint things I like. The female form, cars…” he trails off. “I try to out-do everyone” he says dryly. “The ratio is like 1:80 [for Humenys pieces compared to Kleins]” Humeny intermits. Klein is backing up that statement by bringing 60 paintings with him from Alberta, hoping to sell most of them. “The less I take home, the better” he says. Klien paints with black outlining most of the figures, angular lines, and selective colouring.
Humeny came to Winnipeg six months ago from Red Deer, where Klein and he met. “I heard about Warren from the Banff Center,” says Klein, “And then I went to Red Deer… and [suddenly] he was there.” Both had backgrounds in theater, deciding to go into Visual Arts. It took Humeny 24 hours in Winnipeg to decide he wanted to stay. “I would listen to music, and then I would find out it came from Winnipeg,” he went on to name artists “from G7, and the whole peanuts & corn crew” also mentioning Bruce Cockburn and Pavement had been large inspirations.
Purchasing Enlightenment opens tomorrow, 7:30-12:30 PM, and is open for viewing at Outerworks Gallery (290 Mcdermot, 3rd floor) 12-4 PM on March.22nd , 24th &25th. There is no charge to view the artwork.

Now I've got these chores
I'm not gonna hurt no one
And when at last my work is done

I only want the time
To do one thing that I like
I want to get so stoned
And take a walk out in the light drizzle
At the end of the day
When there's no one watching

At the end of the day
When there's no one watching.

I'm listening to Ella Fitzgerald. Her name sounds very romantic. And Duke Ellington, what a handsome name as well.

I met a stranger on the bus today, and we talked about plans for the future. Usually when someone asks I elaborate into some story about international development, but today I said what I've been thinking about.
I can't think of anything I want to do and realistically how to get there.

I went to the 'Plug-In' gallery to review it for the Uniter (campus paper). I will post the review here later. It took me about 2 and a half hours to look around and take notes, and then I went to this antique shop thats only open on fridays and saturdays. Really, I don't like much of what they sell. Most of it is expencive, and I don't have much interest in furniture (atleast, until I move out). I go for this man who plays the piano there.
I didn't really have intention of going there today, but it was on my way to the bus stop. It is really one of my favorite places to be in the city, or anywhere.

I was standing at the bus stop after, and a woman (a little older than me) approached me to take my picture. I asked if I could smile and she didn't mind. She said she was just taking pictures of things on a list, and then she left.
Now I am curious, what was I on the list?

I worked my last shift at the paper 2 weeks ago. University has been nice so far, albeit hard.

You said you hate the sound of the busses on the ground,
You said you hate the way they scrape their brakes all over town
I Said pretend it's whales keeping their voices down.

I went to see Amanda at CMU, and I took the wrong bus. I took the wrong bus again. I was ill-advised, and I arrived there 3 hours after I began. Not to mention being surrounded by 5 large people on drugs in a bus shelter, but I was too cold to leave it.

I missed my spanish lab, and then it started raining while I was walking back to the university, and I went to wipe my glasses and the lens fell out and broke. I didn't even know that was possible.
